    I printed the image, then carefully cut them out, they are clearly not the same size at all.

      Of course they are different because of the angle that this photograph was taken from. Take one of the objects you cut out and make a replica of it. Then put one on top of the other and see that the bottom one looks bigger.

    I learned this one by using a paper plate and cutintg the pieces the same size. The illusion is created because the long curved side being next to the short curved side.
