Toy Train Track Optical Illusion

Today’s video spotlights the Jastrow Illusion using a pair of identical toy train tracks.  The two wooden train track pieces appear to be longer (or shorter) than the other when arranged one on top of the other.  When one of the pieces is placed directly on top of the other, however, it is obvious that they […]

Checkerboard Twisted Cord Optical Illusion

All of the edges in this image are straight and either horizontal, vertical, or at a 45° angle.  Does it appear that way to you? Edit:  I just also noticed that if you move your scroll bar up and down when viewing this image it appears to have some motion elements to it.

EDIT:  […]

Golden Gate Bridge Illusion

Do the two pillars on the Golden Gate Bridge appear to be parallel or skewed? The photograph on the left and right are identical.  Therefore, the pillars must be perfectly aligned and parallel.  For most people, it appears that the images are skewed.  That is, the picture on the right is at a much sharper […]

Matchbox Illusion

Does that matchbox on the left appear to be the exact same size as the one on the right? They certainly do not look to be the same size, but they are.  This animation was created by Digitalvaho/Fred van Houten after being inspired by an article written by Bruno Ernst.  It is a variation of […]
