For some, a T-shirt represents an article of clothing worn as an undergarment.  For others, it is worn as a fashion statement as a medium of self-expression.  For Malaysian T-shirt  designer Chow Hon Lam (aka Flying Mouse), a tee represents a blank canvas on which a story can be told.  He believes that each of his illustrations has something to say and the people are certainly listening.  Chow’s tees have proven to be tremendously popular and have won many prestigious awards.  Nearly 100,000 people have purchased a tee shirt featuring one of Chow’s designs.  Many of his designs have illusion elements to them.  Ladder Maker, presented below, is a perfect example.

Corner House by István Orosz

Impossible 12 April 2012 No Comments Yet - Share Your Thoughts

István Orosz is a Hungarian painter and graphics designer, among other things.  His work is on par with (or better than) any other artist designing illusion-themed art alive today.  In the example below, titled Corner House, Orosz presents two windows that appear to be on opposite sides of a building.  At the same time, they also appear to be facing one another making the scene confusing and ultimately impossible.

Many of his other works also contain tricks involving perspective like the one employed above.  To view more of his works, visit his website at Gallery Diabolus or his blog.

An Elephant on Mars

Natural 7 April 2012 1 Comment

The following photograph was captured by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.  It is a lava flow in Elysium Planitia on the planet Mars.  Does it resemble anything?  Do you see the head and trunk of an elephant?  While it certainly is not proof of any life on Mars, it is an interesting natural illusion.

Count The Circles – 16 Circles Illusion

Ambiguous 6 April 2012 2 Comments

Take a look at the image below.  How many circles do you see?

Count The Cirlces by Miwa Miwa

Some people will see them right away, but others will not see any circles at all, only a series of lines and squares.  If you don’t see them at first, keep looking.  There are a total of 16 circles here.  When you see them, you’ll wonder why you didn’t notice them right away.

Did you see them right away?  If not, can you see them now?

Japanese artist Miwa Miwa designed this ambiguous optical illusion.
