We have featured terrific motion illusions from optical artist Kaia Nao in the past. If you missed them, you may want to take a look at the floating star illusion and tunnel vision. Below, he has created a design that features ten very colorful caterpillars. When you look at the entire image, do they appear to be moving or inching forward?
One quick look at this grinning man reveals that he is all about having big fun.

According to Ken Knowlton, he has been many things. He cites being a student, teacher, speaker, mathematician, physicist, electron microscopist, computer scientist, researcher, inventor, author, artist, and a critic. He also creates portrait mosaics of famous people using real seashells. As you would imagine, this is a tedious process that involves a lot of trial and error to get everything just right. His shell rendering of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll can be seen below.
Author and illustrator Mark Crilley is the creator of Brody’s Ghost, Miki Falls, Akiko and Billy Clikk. He also happens to publish how-to-draw videos on Youtube. Periodically, he features a “Realism Challenge” where he draws a likeness of something directly next to the real object. In the time-lapse example below, he tears a playing card into four squares and then replicates the scene using pencils and paint. Upon completion, his drawing is so realistic that it is difficult to tell which one is the drawing.
